Partnering to develop actionable frameworks with tangible impact

Following the belief of Simon Sinek, “Changing the world takes more than everything any one person knows, but not more than we know together,” James believes in partnering with clients to conceptualize collaborative solutions for sustained change and impact. Working with mission-driven organizations within and beyond the health, education, and social enterprise sector, James applies his experience in strategic planning, capacity building, and systems and technology to advance his clients’ missions and goals.

At TCC Group:
  • Start Small Think Big: At the onset, Start Small connected and provided under-resourced entrepreneurs with critical services. With TCC, James co-led a strategic planning project with an emphasis on building earned revenue—helping Start Small to see its role in a two-sided market. James and Start Small developed goals focused on furthering its mission to level the entrepreneurial playing field, and building its capacity to do so.
  • Charity Navigator (CN): With the arrival of Charity Navigator’s new CEO, James and the TCC team helped revamp CN’s vision, mission, and goals. Additionally, James spearheaded development and analysis for a 10,000+ user survey to understand how individuals, nonprofits, and foundations view CN’s services. This led the organization to rethink its image and redefine its role as a partner in the nonprofit sector.
  • Educational Alliance (EA): James and the TCC team developed a three-year strategic planning process for Educational Alliance based on in-depth data collection and analysis from key stakeholders such as community members, staff, and partner institutions. Through the engagement, EA realigned its mission statement and strategic impact goals to increase its commitment to listening to the voices on the ground in the community it serves. This allowed EA greater connectivity to ensure new programs met its community’s needs in a holistic way.
Before TCC Group:
  • GRID Impact: As an independent social impact consultant, James partnered with GRID Impact to create training materials to assist nonprofits in applying behavioral economics and human-centered design to their programs and services. As a result, the organizations could leverage these tools, systems, and strategies to provide stronger programs and services for increased impact.
  • Restore NYC: Alongside Restore NYC’s Director of Impact, James built out the organization’s system to track the outputs, outcomes, and impact of its human trafficking victim identification and support programs. Using data collection tools, James implemented dashboards, systems, and report templates to gain programmatic learnings and share Restore NYC’s impact on the women it was serving with others.
