Managing grant operations that enable foundations to achieve their grantmaking vision

“There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.”―Audre Lorde

Rita keeps a meticulous and systematic eye on the private foundations she manages at TCC Group. Serving as outsourced staff, Rita is deeply immersed in all day-to-day foundation operations, enabling the board members of TCC’s foundation management clients to focus on their grantmaking priorities, assured that their institutional policies and procedures are being met and that they are in compliance with legal, financial, and regulatory specifications.

TCC’s diverse foundation management client base necessitates Rita keeping current in grants management best practice. Her hands-on interactions with Foundation clients, philanthropic advisors, legal and accounting firms, and grantees enable her to provide custom management tailored to the specific needs of each foundation client.

At TCC Group:
  • Ohrstrom Foundation: For nearly a decade, Rita has staffed the Foundation’s work, supporting their intentional effort to improve grant cycle operations, heightening transparency with nonprofit grantees, and streamlining the grantmaking process, among other things. An essential member of the TCC project team, Rita also guided the Foundation’s efficiency improvements, implementing guidelines to enable more productive meetings and establishing systems to notify both the board and grantees about deadlines and institutional updates. Rita has also supported formation and operation of a next-generation committee, enabling the Foundation’s sustained success by engaging younger members of the family in the Foundation’s grantmaking work.
  • Mariposa Foundation: Rita’s day-to-day grant management ensures operational excellence of this Foundation’s support of social and environmental justice, international and domestic humanitarian relief, and arts and education in New York City. By introducing production of an annual analysis of all grants, Rita instituted improvements in the Foundation’s grant database structure and strengthened capacity for a more strategic analysis of investments. A trusted thought partner, Rita brings general knowledge of the Foundation’s core funding priorities, supports research on prospective fields and organizations as requested, actively participates in board meetings, and maintains close connection with the Foundation’s grantees.
Before TCC Group:
  • Wilmington Trust: Rita helped manage accounts for high net-worth clients including the Mary J. Hutchins Foundation’s investment portfolio (another TCC foundation management client). She also provided essential assistance to investment managers, delivering comprehensive financial reports and building the capacity for real-time reporting to clients.
  • Yahoo! News: A self-starter, Rita served as a freelance writer who built relationships with the local community and kept a steady beat of community news. Her articles covered a broad range of Brooklyn neighborhood stories-of-interest. Reporting skills honed at Yahoo! continue to serve Rita in her current work at TCC Group.
